The Ultimate Prize – Columbia Spring Chinook
They are known as the “Royalty” of the river. Spring Chinook (“Springers”) are widely considered the finest tasting salmon on the planet. Loaded with healthy fats for their long upriver journey, these fish are pure muscle and offer a challenge that demands a seasoned guide.
-
The Quarry: These are not your average salmon. A Springer is a heavy-hitting, stubborn fighter averaging 8 –15+ pounds. Their meat is bright red, rich in Omega-3s, and absolutely delicious. Catching one is a badge of honor.
-
The Strategy: Success with Springers requires knowing the “travel lanes.” We intercept these fish as they push upstream using heavy trolling techniques, flashing rotators, and herring or prawns. The strike is unmistakable—a violent takedown that will test your tackle.
-
River Conditions: The Columbia is big and powerful in the spring. We fish the heavy currents where the fish feel most comfortable.
-
Gear Up: Spring weather is unpredictable. It can be wet and cool on the water. We highly recommend waterproof bibs and a quality rain jacket, along with waterproof boots to keep you comfortable while we hunt for chrome.
-
Prime Time: April through June (May is traditionally the peak of the run).
These dates sell out first. Secure your chance at the best eating fish in the Northwest. [Check Availability Here] or [Call George to Reserve Your Seat]
