Winter Steelhead
Snake River – Hells Canyon

Location:  Snake River

Season:  November – February

Weather:  Cold

Rugged Beauty & Chrome Steelhead in Hells Canyon

Step aboard for a bucket-list adventure. We venture into Hells Canyon—the deepest river gorge in North America—to chase the elusive and acrobatic Steelhead. This is fishing with a backdrop that few people ever get to see.

  • The Quarry: Steelhead are sea-run Rainbow Trout, they are famous for their explosive energy, tail-walking jumps, and screaming runs. They are excellent eating, but the memory of the fight is the real trophy.

  • The Strategy: This is technical but very exciting fishing at its finest. We utilize side-drifting baits and back-trolling plugs to put gear right in the fish’s face. George knows the canyon’s eddies and seams intimately, drastically increasing your odds of hooking a Steelhead.

  • River Conditions: Dramatic and wild. The water is clear and cold, flowing between towering canyon walls. It is a stunning, immersive nature experience.

  • Gear Up: This is a Winter/Early Spring fishery.  Warmth is key. Wear thermal base layers, heavy wool socks, a beanie, and a heavy waterproof coat. We keep the heater on, but you need to dress for the elements.

  • Prime Time: October through April.

Experience the Canyon. Adventure awaits on the Snake River. [Book Your Hells Canyon Trip] or [Call George for Current Reports]
